NeoGAF’s Dudebro uses Unity

So usually when I blog here I try and showcase what’s going on in the community and write about other folks’ work wherever possible – aside from my shameless book self promotion that is. But today I wanted to share with you an ongoing project i’m involved with and will probably be blogging about on here as the project progresses. Ok Disclaimer over!

NeoGAF forums’ “Dudebro : My Shit is fucked up so I got to Shoot / Slice You II – It’s Straight Up Dawg Time” is a game spawned of an off the cuff remark made by forum member ‘Cuyahoga’, in defense of his playing of ‘Imagine Babies’ on the Nintendo DS. The exchange of words which saw Cuyahoga suggest that he wasn’t macho enough because he wasn’t playing ‘Dudebro : MSIFUSOGTSSY II’ (I have to abbreviate, it’ll take forever otherwise) soon spawned the usual photoshop mockups of games like Call of Duty with a Dudebro character. This spawned a flood of media around the concept, quickly followed by a suggestion that ‘Hey, let’s .. make this game’..

So that’s where I came in. I’m not a regular NeoGAF user, and don’t profess to be, but a good friend of mine is and came to me in tears laughing at some of the stuff that the new ‘Dudebro’ thread had spawned, I took a look and wrote a post saying ‘Hi, I’ll make it?’ which has pretty much snowballed since then – my existing knowledge of Unity and ability to show the production team a prototype very quickly meant that I was named programming lead fairly swiftly, and we’ve been piecing the game together ever since. The team recently put out a press release which has given us a good amount of press online, the best of which I’ve enjoyed from Andrew Hiscock at Bitmob, take a look here :

The most interesting development thus far in the project is the interest of Jon St John, the voice actor of Duke Nukem, who has now recorded many lines for the game, and let me tell you, they sound freakin sweet.

Also, please take a look at all the info you need on the Dudebro Wiki -

The game was previously a public beta but we’ve now closed doors on it until the game develops further, but look out for some previews and a trailer soon!
